Abstract
A model of the organizational conditions of effective implementation of integrated CAD/CAM is developed. The central proposition is that the conditions of successful implementation cannot in general be created concurrently with the technological effort of CAD/CAM integration. The model proposes that integration effectiveness is principally a function of the skills, procedures, strategies, and culture which preexist the integration of CAD and CAM systems. In this model, technological characteristics and project management methods play a subordinate role.
