Dithering improves A/D converter linearity

The authors define the concept of channel profile and use it to examine the effects of dithering on the performance of an A/D (analog-to-digital) converter. Dithering is shown to improve the characteristics of A/D converters in sorting continuous variable distributions with a small loss in time resolution of the converter.
