Abstract :
We study the influence of α-Fe content and anneal time on the magnetic properties and exchange-spring behavior of Nd2Fe 14B/α-Fe thin films treated with a rapid (30 second) or standard (20 minute) anneal. A rapid anneal gives the highest energy product, 12.6 MGOe at an anneal temperature of 750°C along with a coercivity of 10.8 kOe. The exchange-spring behavior was evaluated using recoil demagnetization curves. The reversibility of the recoil demagnetization curves increases with the α-Fe content. Analysis of these results indicate a dominant positive interaction between exchange coupled grains for the thin films as long as the Fe content is not too large
