Abstract :
During the past decade, interest in fuzzy sets has led to the development of a well-organized theory developed by Zadeh [1]. This theory has particular applications in pattern recognition, fuzzy automata, and mapping. This paper concerns the application of fuzzy sets to the problem of seismic Interpretation. From a seismic section, which is a chart showing the positions of different seismic horizons situated under the surface of the ground, this problem consists in finding out the corresponding geological model located in the subsoil and in a vertical plane on the surface of the ground. This is a typical inverse problem, i.e., finding the model from observed data.
