Abstract :
In the design of reactors, it is desired to develop a practical estimation method of eddy current loss in conductors under the field of arbitrary direction. In this paper, a database-oriented estimation technique is proposed by using the eddy current losses of standard conductor obtained by the finite element method. It is shown that the estimated eddy current losses at arbitrary dimensions of wire, spatial angle and frequency of flux density are in good agreement with measured ones. The practical estimation technique described here is utilized in the design of large power filters for the HVDC (High Voltage DC) project in Japan
