Abstract
Quality control and cognitive mapping methods are combined to reduce the deficiencies of current techniques for designing exception-reporting systems for ill-structured decision problems. The approach is tested using ten managers faced with the need of evaluating the performance of their subordinates. The results are very encouraging: the information system detected over 97% of the exceptions and in no case identified expected performance as requiring attention.
