Abstract :
An instantaneous-response limiting amplifier IC for burst-mode optical receivers has been developed. A multi-stage automatic offset cancelling technique is introduced to achieve a wide dynamic range and quick response without any external adjustments. The IC, fabricated by an Si bipolar process, has a dynamic range of 31 dB for burst-mode input signal at 156 Mbit/s. Power dissipation is 60 mW at a power supply voltage of 3 V
