Abstract
The efficiency conversion of skimming longitudinal modes which are involved in the V(z) signature is examined. These modes are very difficult to detect particularly in high velocity materials and it is shown theoretically and experimentally by using a small aperture lens how to improve their efficiency. Sapphire and SiC samples with water and mercury as coupling liquids are considered.
