Abstract
An alternative to leaving the underemployed sectors of the population to the outpourings of the entertainment industries is to make computer-assisted self-instruction more available and more effective. This article discusses the uses of machine learning in education and training and presents the results of an experiment in which children are able to learn by acting as teachers for an artificial pupil in the form of a trainable computer program
