Abstract
DBR lasers using curved surface gratings are proposed and demonstrated. They are designed to reflect a guided wave diverging from the end of a narrow active channel. Stable singlemode lasing was obtained at up to 32.5 mW output power under CW operation. The laser can be fabricated by a simple process without regrowth and is suitable for constructing monolithic photonic integrated circuits
