Abstract
In this paper, we propose an admission control and resource allocation mechanisms for multimedia services in WLAN. The WLAN admits a traffic stream (TS) of a station only if the required effective bandwidth is less than the residual wireless resources, to prevent the QoS violation of other TSs. To calculate the effective bandwidth of the TS, we consider the service specific QoS parameters and the physical layer dependent parameters. The admitted TS is transmitted during the allocated transmission opportunity (TXOP) when the station wins the channel access based on the contention. The simulation results show that the proposed mechanisms efficiently transmit the service traffic within the delay bound regardless of traffic characteristics. Therefore, the proposed mechanisms can contribute to guarantee the QoS of the real-time services in WLAN.
