  • Abstract
    The traditional method for generating new transforms is based on a set of special orthogonal functions. By using the principle of dyadic symmetry and by maximising a particular transform performance index like transform efficiency used in image coding, an infinite number of transforms can be obtained. A number of new, order-8 transforms with transform efficiency better than that of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) has been obtained through the proposed procedure.
