Abstract :
The paper describes and presents measurements taken on a novel D-fibre interferometric antenna used to detect RF signals. These results were acquired using a D-fibre coated with polyvinylidene fluoride homopolymer (PVDF). A sensitivity of 1.7 μrad/V/m per metre is demonstrated for a coated fibre of length 10 cm with 100 μm thickness of PVDF. The antenna, made by coating D-fibre, produces less radial resonance than using coated circularly symmetric fibre. In addition, a D-fibre antenna network is analysed and the maximum number of sensors is predicted for a particular sensitivity requirement. The D-fibre antenna network has a potential application in microcellular mobile communications to minimise the intermodulation noise and relative intensity noise associated with the laser diode
