Abstract
With every passing clay, it is becoming increasingly clear to all thought ful people that more and more of U.S. energy needs must be satisfied by the sun — and sooner rather than later. (See “Solar Energy and Conservation” by D. Redfield in the September 1973 issues of TECHNOLOGY and SOCIETY.) A short decade ago the amount of attention — and funds — devoted to solar energy research and development was minuscule. Since the great awakening of 1973, the situation has gradually changed, although not without foot dragging on the pan of some and active opposition from many detractors of solar energy.
