A boycott bandwagon

MARLBORO, Vt. — One of the ways in which a government pursues its objectives is by co-opting communities of intellectuals into direct action on its behalf. Sometimes this action is concrete, as during the Vietnam War when the National Academy of Sciences conducted war research whose existance and content was kept secret from most members.
