Abstract :
Ill-posed electromagnetic problems with Fredholm equations of the first kind are frequently solved by the “moment method” without explicit regularization. The paper examines why and how the moment method works for ill-posed problems and what limitations are imposed by the ill-posedness. According to theoretical estimates and numerical experiments, the moment method solution converges to the exact one in the energy norm but does not converge uniformly. Comparison with the finite element method is given
