Abstract :
A complex and unsymmetric system of equations has to be solved when the hybrid finite element/boundary element (FE-BE) method is applied to harmonic eddy currents. In this paper the performance of preconditioned iterative solvers for complex and unsymmetric systems of equations are numerically investigated. It is significant to adopt an incomplete LU decomposition preconditioner of a higher fill-in level to accelerate the convergence rate. For nonlinear problems it is suggested to use a symbolic decomposition in preconditioning for a further performance improvement
