Abstract :
The paper presents an optimization procedure for the design of surface PM synchronous motors. The procedure first allows the definition of the optimal motor dimensions by means of space harmonic analysis and then refining the design by using a routine that integrates the finite element method with a minimization technique. Several optimized designs are presented and discussed
