For the third year, 5½ hours per day, 4 days per week from September to June, more than 1200 schools in the United States are receiving instruction of high quality from a television-equipped DC-6 aircraft. The broadcast comes from an altitude of 23 000 feet over Montpelier, Ind., to the six states participating — Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The program, financed primarily by The Ford Foundation Fund for the Advancement of Education and conducted by the Midwest Program on Airborne Television Instruction (MPATI), a nonprofit corporation formed for this purpose, first began operation in 1961.¹
