Abstract :
This paper concerns the use of probabilistic methods to describe the reliability requirements of power system teleprotection systems by considering that telecommunication is needed when: there is a fault on the transmission line; the fault is on the fraction of the line that needs telecommunications for high-speed clearance; and the affected transmission line is one that can cause unacceptable power system events if the fault is cleared slowly. This paper suggests a way of quantifying such factors
