Abstract :
The authors describe a user-friendly way to model single-mode semiconductor lasers and standard single-mode fibers using hardware description language dedicated to behavioral description of analog and mixed-signal systems (HDL-A). The laser and fiber models written in HDL-A, can be associated with circuit-level models or macromodels already available for electronic components to provide a simultaneous time-domain simulation of an entire optical communication link in a standard circuit simulator environment.
