Abstract
This paper describes the derivation of a salient-pole synchronous generator harmonic model in the form of a harmonically coupled impedance matrix. In sequence components, the relationship between the generator harmonic voltages and currents in the presence of saliency can be represented by analytical expressions, which are derived from the normally available machine parameters such as direct and quadrature-axis subtransient reactances. Magnetic saturation reduces the rotor angle which leads to changes in the harmonic cross couplings. The generator model is validated by means of time domain simulations and the results from three-phase harmonic measurements of a direct connected generator-HVDC converter unit
