Abstract
Spectrum was a mere 18-month-old fledgling when it published its first space cover. That was in July 1965, and by that time the National Aeronautics and Space Administration itself was already seven years old. Mars was the subject of the cover, and the issue ran an article describing the telemetry and command system for the Mariner Mars 1964 probe.
