Title :
Toward safer motor vehicles: Many “fatal” accidents can be survived, or avoided altogether, by adopting vehicle designs that stress safety over styling
Abstract :
No value is greater than that we set on human life, and so, to those concerned with the automobile, no responsibility is more important than the safety of passengers, drivers, transportation workers, and pedestrians. Yet you and I are the primary cause of needless highway accidents, not just because we impact roadside objects, pedestrians, and each other, but also because we tolerate safety deficiencies in our vehicles and in the highway system. It is time to demand reasonable action, to identify major safety problems, and to find and implement the most effective solutions. The lives saved and suffering prevented, combined with the economic savings involved, more than justify the research efforts and the cost of implementing them.
