Abstract :
A simple reshaping and regenerating (2R) repeater that uses an EA modulator directly driven by a uni-travelling carrier photodiode has been developed. An experiment showed that it had good 2R performance at 10 Gbit/s. The power penalty arising from the accumulated amplified spontaneous emission noise at a bit error rate of 10-9 was 2-3 dB lower than that of a 1R repeater
