Abstract
The transmission of 10 Gbit/s vestigial-side-band (VSB) signals over 177 km of conventional singlemode fibre is demonstrated. The dispersion penalty was measured to be < 3 dB. The simulation analysis shows that the small dispersion penalty comes from the combination of reduced spectral width of the VSB signal and the negative dispersion of the VSB filter
