Abstract :
In the paper by J.-H. Chen et al. on ´Using a static VAr compensator to balance a distribution system´ (see ibid. vol.35, p.298-304, 1999), the authors have made a positive contribution to balancing an unbalanced system. However, the author makes several comments and shares his experience with compensators consisting of a thyristor switched inductor (TSI). The author discusses the harmonics and resonance of a TSI.
