The proliferation of mobile and hand-held devices, along with advances in multimodal and multimedia technologies, are producing a new wave of applications that enable users to quickly and more naturally perform many tasks including finding music, videos, and business listings; surfing the Web; sending a short text message; or interacting with social media Web sites through voice, possibly in conjunction with other modalities.
