Abstract :
This paper proposes a simple sensor less position and speed estimation algorithm for rotor side converter control of doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). The presented algorithm is capable of accurate estimation of rotor speed and position for DFIG both in standalone as well as in grid-connected modes over wide range of rotor speed including accurate estimation near synchronous speed. The robustness of the proposed algorithm is that, the estimation performance is not affected by any parameter mismatch and is highly stable which has been discussed in details. The algorithm is basically a model reference adaptive system (MRAS) which uses the electromagnetic torque as the working error. The algorithm has been mathematically derived and experimentally tested for the validation.
