Abstract
The author suggests that qualitative analysis of electromagnetic energy flux as depicted by the Poynting vector gives an insight into the mechanism of power conditioning going beyond the scope of classic circuit theory. He argues that an understanding and eventually an analytical description of energy flux and its interaction with matter are essential to truly optimize energy conversion in high-frequency electronic power converters. He describes how energy flux, as depicted by the Poynting vector flows in the circuit components, gives a different perspective of `parasitic effects´ in magnetic components
