Abstract :
We propose a chirped fiber Bragg grating sensor for measuring pressures along the length of the esophagus. Existing esophageal manometers are bulky and very uncomfortable for the patient. The new sensor uses the time-dependent group delay response of a chirped fiber Bragg grating. In contrast to existing transducers that only measure at discrete points, the output of the new device is a continuous function of length along the esophagus.
