Abstract :
This paper describes an analytical technique for predicting inter-turn short-circuit current in fault-tolerant permanent magnet brushless machines. By quantifying the permeance, associated with the flux-linkage of all turns of a phase winding, and the permeances, associated with the leakage fluxes of the healthy and partially short-circuited turns, the self- and mutual inductance which governs the currents in the healthy and short-circuited turns can be derived. The results can be used to provide a computationally efficient tool for assessing inter-turn short-circuit current and for formulating an effective remedial action.
