Abstract
In high torque density permanent magnet machines, the magnetic saturation is usually high and the armature reaction is very significant. A dual-lumped parameter magnetic circuit model is developed. It employs two nonlinear magnetic circuits associated with different magnetic circuits associated with the potential sources of permanent magnets and armature reaction, respectively. Hence, it can account for the magnetic saturation and cross-coupling effect. The developed model is compared with conventional and simplified models. It shows that the electromagnetic performance of PM machines is sensitive to the slot leakage permeance, particularly when the electric loading is high.
