Abstract
This paper introduces architectural concepts that address the migration from the current AOC ACARS and ATS ACARS (FANS) data link applications over the existing narrowband A/G subnetworks to the use of IP based broadband subnetworks. The first proposed transition step is the tunneling of AOC ACARS and ATS ACARS messages over broadband IP networks such as Gate link and the Inmarsat´s SwiftBroadBand service. Proposed operational architectures are introduced along with lab demonstration/flight trial architectures alternatives that provide lower cost and risk options
