Abstract
Single phase induction motors as the most used electric machines has recently been researched more rigorously due to the penetration of their variable speed drives into home appliances and industry applications. In this paper an improved steady state model of the motors, including copper and iron losses, is presented for the investigation of major motor characteristics including torque, input power, copper and iron losses and efficiency. A single phase variable frequency supply is designed and implemented to facilitate the motor operation under different voltages and frequencies. An advanced motor test setup is developed to evaluate the machine model at operating conditions. The experimental results confirm the simulation results and prove the validity of the proposed steady state model.
