Abstract :
An image coding method based on morphological transformation is proposed. The objects in an image can be compressed without any loss of information by an iterative erosion operation with a structure element. The original image is restored by the iterative dilation operation with the same structure element. Very good results were obtained in an astronomical application. The compression ratio is more than 160
