Abstract
Facing the huge and complex amount of data in the mammography domain, and due to the necessity of having a reliable, exhaustive and complete knowledge base; we have to choose the right strategy for the knowledge formalization. For that, we have opted for the use of ontology which creates not merely a hierarchical class for a vocabulary but a full formal representation. The main goal behind the design of the mammography ontology is to be manipulated by decision support systems. So to build the intend ontology, we have studied the shortcomings of existing ontologies related to the domain in terms of classes, properties and the way to model radiology findings interpretations. So, in this paper, we describe the development process and the main contributions with regard to the current related domain propositions.
