Abstract :
Summary form only given. Ever increasing demands on areal density places a greater emphasis on the need for write pole materials with very high saturation magnetization (Bs). The CoFe alloy system is an attractive option as it has the highest Bs found in bulk materials. In this study electroplated CoFe has been demonstrated using electrodeposition to give a Bs=2.1 T. However, there are concerns over the corrosion properties of this system. Methods to improve the corrosion resistance of these types of system have been reported but with the negating factor of decreasing the Bs substantially. This paper looks at the addition of a third ´noble´ metal, Rh, to address these issues.
