Abstract :
In the analyses the thrust per given copper losses and the copper mass of double-sided linear permanent magnet machines with non-overlapping and overlapping air-cored windings are compared. The comparison is done by deriving pitch, thrust and copper-mass factors for the different windings of the machine. It is shown that the optimum non-overlapping winding machine has certain important advantages compared to the overlapping winding machine.
