Abstract :
The main rationales adopted by BERKOM, a West German pilot project for the development of a broadband ISDN, for the design, specification, description, and development of a generalized function reference model for multimedia documents in an integrated broadband communication network are presented. Multimedia documents in this context consist of textual, graphic, image, audio, and movie information. Moreover, special types of information can also be added, e.g. product definition data, tables, formulas, or animated images
