Abstract :
The solid state fault current limiters, offer a superior solution to the power distribution system problems caused by high available fault current. In this paper the comparison of two different types of SSFCL is carried out. The design of the SSFCL devices are developed, power losses and harmonics are evaluated. An equivalent circuit model of each device is then derived and implemented, along with the scheme of the considered radial distribution network, in the MATLAB/Simpower software Package. The simulation results show that theses devices not only limit the fault current but also actively control fault currents in order to reduce the influence of faults in distribution networks. The limiting effect, interruption capability, losses, harmonics and influence of SSFCL devices on the healthy part of the power distribution network to mitigate voltage sag are studied and compared.
