Abstract :
The present paper considers a competition of two modes with frequency separation much smaller than the zone of self-excitation. Such a situation is typical for a gyrotron with an oversized cavity. Thus, the driving monochromatic signal affects both modes. It is shown that such a gyrotron can be switched from one mode to another. This sort of operation can be used for suppression of neoclassical tearing modes in tokomaks and stellarators.
