Abstract :
The authors discuss BERKOM (Berliner Kommunikationssystem), a pilot project of the German PTT for broadband-ISDN (B-ISDN), which was started in Berlin (West Germany) in 1986. They outline the architecture and major solutions adapted for a global system, and describe a reference model developed for the global system to guarantee the coherent development of the different modules and their interworking in the global system
