Abstract :
Varying the relative voltage angle between phases can enable the power from three single-phase inverter systems to be aggregated to a constant value while maintaining the magnitudes of the voltages and serving asymmetrical loads. No additional passive elements are required. The concepts of instantaneous power spiral vectors and pulsating power spiral vectors are introduced to explain the theory, applicability, and limitations of this method. A closed loop voltage angle controller for the aggregation of three single-phase inverters to a common dc bus is presented. Computer simulations and laboratory experiments are performed to validate the theory.
