Abstract
This paper addresses a product design to aid the visually impaired. It is intended to be used as a secondary device to the traditional long white cane. It implements ultrasonic backup sensor technology found in modern day automobiles to detect obstructions that can not be detected by the cane. The device is worn over the body and alerts the user of an obstruction through vibrations. This allows the user to have full use of his/her hand and allows the user to retain the ability to listen to his/her surroundings.
