  • Abstract
    Optoelectronic integrated and photonic integrated devices used as key components in high-performance, compact, and cost-effective optical modules for subscriber optical network systems such as fiber-to-the-home/office (FTTH/FTTO) and fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) are described. A laser diode with a monolithically integrated monitor photodiode and monolithic receiver optoelectronic integrated circuits (OEICs) are shown to be promising components for achieving optical module compactness and cost-effectiveness. Wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) filters and couplers/splitters based on PLC (planar lightwave circuit) technology, silica waveguides on silicon substrate, are shown to make high-performance, compact integrated devices for WDM optical modules. A compact WDM optical module accessing simultaneously to 1.3-μm-wavelength time compressed multiplexing (TCM) signals and 1.5-μm-wavelength video signals is described
