Abstract
Summary form only given. One of the key advantages of single-pole (SP) head/media with magnetic soft underlayer (SUL) perpendicular recording system is its ability to obtain larger write field in the media than that in longitudinal recording. However, such advantage is diminished as the dimension of the pole tip is reduced to increase areal recording density. In this work, the effects of head field rise time and media damping constant on switching field and switching time are investigated through micromagnetic simulations.
