Abstract
The course of evolution of power system control centers is influenced by several different factors, of which two play the most decisive role: the transformations in the structure of power system industry and the evolution of information technology. Agent Technology is an answer to many of the challenges posed by them to future control center architectures. In this work we analyze the characteristics of environments that are potentially suited to the use of agents, and show that power system control center environments are specially indicated to benefit from this rapidly evolving technology.
