Abstract :
In multibeam mobile satellite communication systems, there is a problem that prevents efficient use of radio communication channels. A scheme to overcome this problem is presented on the common control channels. A configuration of control channels is considered and a comparison is made between two schemes where (a) both forward and return control channels are individually assigned to each beam, and (b) return channels are commonly assigned to all beams and forward channels are individually assigned to each beam. An inter beam diversity technique involving an individual unique word detection and combining method is proposed and analyzed for return control channels. Use of this diversity technique results in a good bit error rate performance and a high throughput performance
