Abstract :
In this paper a comparative study between different traditional techniques of multispectral image compression such as JPEG(which depends on discrete cosine transform (DCT)), JPEG2000 (which depends on discrete wavelet transform(DWT)), SPIHT and a proposed technique which depends on making modifications on SPIHT algorithm is presented. In The modified SPIHT algorithm the value of the current pixel in the current band is predicted by the best JPEG predictor on the previously encoded band after that, the difference between the actual value and the predicted value is encoded by a SPHIT algorithm. Experimental results show that the modified SPIHT algorithm has better performance in PSNR than JPEG, JPEG2000, and SPIHT for multispectral image compression and transmission over OFDM communication system.
